During my early 20’s I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder called Retinitis Pigmentosa, commonly known as RP. My first symptom was night blindness, then loss of depth perception and lastly total blindness.

My name is Shane Briggs and I am a BLIND MASSAGE THERAPIST.

At this stage there is no cure, however, with ongoing technology I’m positive I will regain my eyesight in the future.

After losing my sight, I was trained by Guide Dogs Queensland to use a white cane. Shortly thereafter, I was given my first Guide Dog, Bundy. Once regaining my freedom and mobility with Bundy, I decided to pursue a career in massage.

In 2007, I completed a Certification IV in massage for blind and vision impaired people. I was lucky to be awarded the Golden Hands certificate for best in class. I then proceeded to complete a Diploma in Remedial Massage.

Since 2009, I have been operating my own massage and alternative therapy clinic, INNER VISION MASSAGE – a fitting play on words I felt.

Life’s journey can have many twists and turns. It’s ironic that I began my working life as a panel beater working with my hands repairing motor vehicle bodies and forty years on, I am still working with my hands – now repairing and healing human bodies.
